If you’ve been trying to find some ideas for healthy salad dressing recipes, then look no further than this variation of a spicy hot wing sauce. Once made, toss this salad dressing with some greens, crumbled blue cheese and grilled chicken, and you’ve got a healthy alternative to it’s close cousin, the buffalo hot wing. This would be the perfect item to bring to your next sporting event, as with all of the energy involved in cheering on a sports game, it would be a great source of fuel (and way to prevent scurvy) for your team of couch athletes.
Hot Wing Salad Dressing
Yield: 2 cups (approx.)
Active Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 3 minutes
1 c. extra virgin olive oil
1/4 c. white vinegar
1/4 c. lime juice
1/3 c. Tabasco sauce
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. salt
1) Combine all of the ingredients in a bottle with a 2 cup capacity and shake.
Gifting Idea:
Place the dressing in a small bottle decorated with a ribbon in the color of your favorite sports team, and top with a cork. Attach a gift tag with instructions for use, such as:
“When ready to enjoy, shake this salad dressing and toss with some greens, crumbled blue cheese and grilled chicken. Know your boundaries on how spicy you want to go though…because this sauce is smokin’ hot!”
Healthy, flavorful and easy - plus it will make a great gift. Just in time for the Super Bowl + wings, I might add. Last photo is so gorgeous, Melissa. Warm wishes, Shanna PS I will try this out soon! I love salad and trying new dressings.
Thanks so much for your kind words Shanna! Let me know how it goes if you try this (but do note it’s a feisty one, so if you like it hot don’t hold back!)

I am torn - my husband loves a lot of heat. I like a subtle amount. I will have to split the difference! Best wishes to you, Melissa, for a great day!
One a completely different note, is it a (sheep’s milk Roquefort) blue cheese in the background? So many types of blue, and yours looks like a great pairing. :-)
Hi Shanna!
The blue cheese in the background is actually a Mycella Danish Mild Blue Cheese, which was actually crowned a winner in the 2010 World Cheese Championship Contest. It’s made from cow’s milk, but a Roquefort would also be excellent! I often go with the milder blues at home because it seems to be agreeable with the non-blue cheese fans (while still winning over the big-blue cheese fans). In fact, this blue is a bit of a “gateway” cheese for those who think they don’t like it, lol. ;)

Thanks, Melissa. I adore cheese! A blue “gateway” cheese - what a lovely idea to convert those new to strong cheeses. Here is another great “gateway” cheese that seems to please blue lovers and blue fearers: http://www.carrvalleycheese.com/artisanal-and-american-originals-cheeses/goat-milk-cheeses/billy-blue.html
Best wishes, Shanna
Yum! I will definitely be on the lookout to find this “Billy Blue Goat Milk Cheese” that you recommend. At this rate, we just might be able to achieve world domination if we can convince the masses that blue cheese is OK ;)
World Blue Cheese Domination. This is a lofty goal, but we can achieve it, Melissa. Enjoy your day! - Shanna
This is also good with avocado, instead of the blue cheese.
You’re so right Jeff! What a brilliant and healthy idea!
