Salted Caramel Apple Rings

Apples + Caramel + Salt = Delicious

Apples dipped in caramel are a classic treat that is often reminiscent of the fall. And by using dried apples with salted caramel, you can create a tasty spin-off that can be shared year round.

Salted Caramel Apple Rings

Yield: 24 apple rings

Active Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

11 oz (311 g) caramel cubes, removed from wrappers (about 1 1/2 cups)
1 tbsp. water
24 dried apple rings
1 tsp. coarse sea salt

1) Cover a large cookie sheet with a layer of parchment paper.
2) Place caramel cubes in a microwave safe bowl, and cook on high heat in the microwave for about 2-3 minutes until melted, stopping at each minute to stir.
3) Dip each apple ring halfway in caramel, sprinkle with a pinch of coarse sea salt, and lay flat in one layer on the parchment paper-lined cookie sheet*.
4) Refrigerate for 1 hour. To prevent sticking, keep refrigerated until ready to enjoy. Just before serving, separate each individual slice and allow to soften at room temperature for 15 minutes.

*Chef’s note: When ready to begin dipping the apple slices, be prepared to work fast in order to get the sea salt to stick before the caramel sets. Ensure that you have all of your ingredients and tools ready before beginning.

Gifting Idea:

Create a fancy looking gift by placing the salted caramel apple rings in a wooden box lined with parchment paper. It is important to note that a good quality caramel will be quite sticky when softened at room temperature. As such, if this food gift will sit at room temperature for some time before consuming, lay each ring on an individual layer of parchment paper or place in small cupcake liners to prevent sticking.

To elevate the look of this gift, choose a unique container, such as a wooden jewelry or cigar box (pictured).
