Inspired by NYC’s famous “Smokeshack” burger from Shake Shack hamburger chain, this is my version of an epic cherry pepper relish. With a tiny hit of heat and a right amount of sweet, this a great addition to any burger, hotdog, or other favorite “sammich.” Bottle this little piece of heaven up to give to your dear friends with burger addictions.

Cherry Pepper Relish

Yield: 1 cup

Active Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

3/4 c. (4 oz) pickled cherry peppers, roughly chopped
1/2 c. (6 oz) bacon, chopped into 1/4″ cubes
2 tbsp. sugar

1) In a 10-12″ pan over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp (about 8 minutes).
2) Add peppers and sugar and combine well.
3) Continue to saute until most of the liquid is gone (about 5-10 minutes).

Gifting Idea:

Once relish is cool, and place in a decorative jar for gift giving. When ready to enjoy, serve on top of a burger or hotdog, or use as a topping over cream cheese and crackers.

A pretty jar paired with a twine bow adds a touch of simple elegance to this food gift.
